Réserve de La Comtesse, de Pichon Lalande,
2007, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France, 12.5%
Cork Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, Merlot £360.86 £30.07 £27.06
A firm and distinguished wine of great density, with spices, black fruits and liquorice coming through. The wines of Reserve de la Comtesse, like the Grand Vin, are known for their soft, feminine charm and due to the amount of Merlot in the blend they are supple, velvety and opulent. Aromas of black cherries, spice, smoke, blackberries, plums and sandalwood.

Château La Tour Figeac, Grand Cru,
1998, Saint Emilion, France, 13.5%
Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, Merlot £1039.97 £86.65 £78.00
This is the finest La Tour-Figeac since the 1982. Dark ruby/purple-colored with a sensational bouquet of smoke-infused blackberries, jammy cherries, and coffee, this thick, unctuously-textured, rich, full-bodied, structured, moderately tannic wine is already gorgeous to drink. Anticipated maturity: now-2015. A sleeper of the vintage. Drink 2001-2015 . 90 points Robert Parker

Château d’Armailhac,,
2000, Pauillac, France, %
Cab Sauvignon, Merlot £639.90 £53.33 £48.00
Rich, spicy oaky nose, plenty of zest. Lush, opulent, masses of fruit and powerful ripe tannins, cassis, classic Pauillac. Dense, built to last, majestic. An exotic, spicy, gorgeously rich blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot, the 2000 exhibits a dense garnet/plum/purple color in addition to a big, smoky nose of espresso, nuts, Asian spices, black plums, currants, and leather. Superbly concentrated, with sweet tannin, and a thick, juicy texture, it must be the best d'Armailhac ever made. Drink 2009-25.

Château Léoville-Barton,,
2001, Saint Julien, France, 12.5%
Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, Merlot £911.95 £76.00 £68.40
Château Léoville Barton is a typical Saint-Julien and one of the most elegant Médoc wines. The gravel soil in the very heart of the appellation is ideal for vines. The grape varieties are represented by 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet franc. A wonderfully firm, concentrated wine that walks a fine, balanced line between richness and poised structure. It is classic in the best sense, showing all the shape of a fine Bordeaux, while adding the extra dimension of the freshest of black fruits, complexity from a few hints of wood, and a dark, brooding, long-lasting aftertaste. Consistent from bottle this is an outstanding offering, tight on the heels of the 2000. Civilized and approachable for a young Leoville-Barton, it exhibits a saturated plum/purple colour along with classic Bordelais aromas of damp earth, crème de cassis, smoke, vanillin, and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied and rich, with high but well-integrated tannin, and a long, 40+ second finish, it is brilliant effort, and one of the stars of the Medoc.
